Description
A fine Pomerol wine, alluringly delicate and rich
The estate
Owned by the Bourotte-Audy family, the Clos du Clocher estate is located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau. A "wonderful garden" surrounded by low walls, the Clos du Clocher is an essential reference of fine Pomerol wines thanks to its bold and unique style.
The vineyard
The Clos du Clocher vineyard spreads over 5.90 hectares of vines that are 33 years old on average. Situated on the plateau of Pomerol, facing the church, the vineyard enjoys an exceptional location. The Clos du Clocher vines are planted on clay and gravel soils and rest on blue clay and deep gravel subsoils. Actively working towards becoming fully sustainable, the vineyard is managed using integrated viticulture.
The vintage
An extremely hot, dry and sunny summer preceded a real Indian summer in the month of September, during which the significant temperature variations were ideal for the grape’s ripening process. The harvest took place from October 10th to 17th.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand before destemming. The vinification is carried out in a plot-by-plot manner in small temperature controlled steel and cement tanks, with manual pumping over, punching of the cap and delestage if necessary. Vatting time for approximately 4 weeks. Malolactic fermentation in barrels before an 18-month ageing period in fine-grained French oak barrels (2/3 new oak and 1/3 first-fill wine). One or two rackings are carried out every year depending on the tasting.
The blend
This Clos du Clocher 2016 is a blend of Merlot (79%) and Cabernet Franc (21%).
The tasting
Fresh and delicate, this fine Pomerol wine offers a charming and wide aromatic palette. Throughout the tasting experience, aromas of blackberries, violets and truffles mingle with delicious toasted, spicy, minty notes.
