Located in Northern Medoc on the prestigious Pauillac appellation, Lafite Rothschild was very early considered as the first of the firsts in the history of Bordeaux wines, even before the official classification of 1855. This fame comes partially from Thomas Jefferson’s written work, then United States Ambassador to France, after he had travelled across the Bordeaux vineyards in May 1787. This future president of the United States did not then give erroneous advices. The fame of Lafite was thus clearly established for the following centuries. A greatness this Classified Growth owes to an outstanding gravely hill, giving the fundamental character to the wines of Lafite. Here, each and every man has always meant to magnify the character of the terroir following traditions and an esthetical approach, embodied by the superb cellars designed by Ricardo Bofill in 1987.
The Baron Eric de Rothschild and the skilful Charles Chevallier, being keen aesthetes, keep on the everlasting seek for harmonious balance.
