Description
The roundness and complexity of a white wine from Bordeaux
The estate
In the land of Batges at the gates of Pauillac, Château Lynch Bages is a property that has marked the history of the Médoc. While the Bages terroir has been known for its quality since the 16th century, it was only in the 18th that it became famous. With an Irishman by the name of Thomas Lynch at the helm of the estate, Château Lynch-Bages was recognised at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. The estate was acquired by the J-M Cazes family right after the Second World War. Château Lynch-Bages is today considered one of the most important references of the Pauillac appellation. Le Blanc de Lynch-Bages is the estate’s white wine, produced in the appellation of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The Château Lynch-Bages vineyard dedicated to white grape varieties extends over 7 hectares of Garonne gravel in the town of Saint-Sauveur. The vineyard is managed on a plot-by-plot basis with the help of satellite technologies aimed to preserve the vineyard's genetic heritage.
The vintage
Winter was characterised by mild temperatures, leading to an early bud burst. Flowering and fruit set took place consistently through a cool and sometimes humid spring. June brought high temperatures, contributing to the development of the vine. During this scorching summer, the vines were able to resist thanks to the sufficient water reserves accumulated during the winter of 2018.
The winemaking
Manual harvest. Sorting in the vineyard. Harvest from September 11 to 17. 3 different winemaking paths: Direct pressing without destemming, direct pressing with destemming and pressing after cold maceration for 12 hours in dry ice. Fermentation 1/3 in vats, 2/3 in barrels.
The ageing
6 months on lees. French oak barrels. 50% new oak.
The blend
Sauvignon blanc (72%), sémillon (22%), muscadelle(6%).
The tasting
The Lynch-Bages Blanc 2019 by Château Lynch-Bages offers a pale yellow colour with green reflections that testifies to its youth. The nose is expressive with Sauvignon notes. On the palate, the complex aromas of fresh peach, white fruit and exotic fruit mingle with each other. Roundness, breadth and aromatic persistence make this Lynch-Bages Blanc 2019 a great white wine from Bordeaux.
