1998 was unusual. August was extremely warm and literally grilled the berries yet was compensated by a particularly rainy September, followed by a beautiful weather, this conveying a beautiful maturity to very healthy grapes. The main issue was to be patient and to wait for the latest harvest as possible. The Dom Perignon 1998 offers fresh almonds and grapefruits scents, then notes of cashew nuts and spices appear and a light hint of toasted bun crowns it all. On the palate, a feeling of satin swelling like waves can be enjoyed and delicately caresses the palate. A true moment of weightlessness before the wine melts to end on a final vibrant note, of a totally mastered stiffness. An outstanding length, enhanced with a bitter ting.

Wine Advocate-Parker : The Dom Pérignon 1998 P2 offers an intense yet fine and nutty bouquet with licorice notes and a lovely mineral freshness. Intense and fruity on the palate, this is a round, charming, very fresh yet somewhat loud and unrefined 1998 with a long, aromatic finish. The bubbles could be finer, especially given the long aging on the lees. I had a much better sample at the domaine in early spring 2016. Tasted October 2018.
