Indeed, 2018 was the year of many novelties at Château Ripeau. The new vat room, combining tradition and modernity, was designed in a way to help the wines express the typicality of the vineyard. The harvested fruit is now received by means of gravity and the grapes crushed under inert atmosphere, to preserve the quality of the fruit. A revival also took place in the vineyard, with a restructuring aimed to increase the density of plantation (9625 vines per hectare).
At the vineyard, 2018 will be remembered for the climatic contrasts that kept the technical teams in suspense and threatened significant mildew pressure. The beautiful summer, perfect hydraulic pressure and the high thermal amplitudes between day and night temperatures allowed the fruit to ripen fully. Blending Merlot (67%), Cabernet Franc (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%), the Château Ripeau 2018 is already showing signs of a remarkable Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in a vintage that will be remembered as one of the best of the property.
