A fruity and refreshing Provence rosé

A wine of great pleasure, the Cuvée de la Commanderie 2017 presents the elegant style for which Domaine Peyrassol is famous in the form of an accessible rosé, which combines the generous texture of fruit with the freshness typical of Provence rosés.

Produced in A.O.C Côtes de Provence, the Cuvée de la Commanderie 2017 rosé from Domaine Peyrassol takes its name from its prestigious heritage. In the 12th century, the Knights of the Order of the Templars founded the Commanderie de Peyrassol in the heart of the Var hills, in the town of Flassans-sur-Issole. This became a popular staging place for Crusaders on the road to the Holy Land.

The Cuvée de la Commanderie 2017 rosé expresses all of the charm of its Mediterranean vines, aged 25 years on average and planted in clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of gravel. This complex blend includes 45% Cinsault, 29% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 6% Rolle, and 5% Mourvèdre.

The vineyards are managed with sustainable agricultural practices that do not harm the natural environment. The use of chemical treatments is extremely limited. Common techniques include non-weeding soil cultivation and sowing seeds between rows in order to promote a natural aeration and life in the soil. Picked mechanically, the grapes are harvested at the optimum stage of ripeness during the coolest hours in order to preserve their aromatic potential. Vinification takes place in stainless steel vats over a 4-month ageing period.

With the 2017 vintage recognised as a very early one and with extremely limited yields due to the spring frost, the Cuvée de la Commanderie 2017 demonstrates a superb shine. Thanks to the quality of the berries, picked under excellent sanitary conditions and at an optimal stage of phenolic maturity, the wines are rich in flavour and texture, very expressive of the fruit.

In the glass, the Cuvée de la Commanderie 2017 rosé displays a soft pink colour with silver highlights. The very expressive olfactory palette offers intensely fruity notes, plenty of red fruits like wild strawberry giving way to the freshness of citrus. On the palate, the attack shows great finesse, with gentle flavours of red berries and lemony notes. The finish is quite generous, offering a persistent freshness. A rosé in the Peyrassol style, to be enjoyed with meals in the summertime.
