Description
A complex and elegant Châteauneuf-du-Pape red wine
The estate
Acquired in 1905 by the Daumen family, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne has experienced an unprecedented growth since 1990, when Jean-Paul Daumen joined the family estate.
This man, who is passionate about his terroir, developed an environmentally-friendly vineyard management by limiting the use of treatments and favouring biodynamic practices over chemical treatments.
Expressed through the quality and aromatic range of the estate's wines, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne has become an essential reference among Rhône Valley wines over the years.
The wine
The 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Hauts-Lieux by Domaine de la Vieille Julienne is the result of an exceptional terroir and a natural approach to winemaking. This 2-hectare vineyard, comprising around 70-year-old vines, is cultivated based on the precepts of biodynamic viticulture and is Demeter certified. The soil is made up of quartzite pebbles, red clay and rare yellow sands.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are sorted twice and then destemmed. The vinification is carried out using indigenous yeasts, without sulphur. Vatting time lasts 20 days. The wine is aged for one year in 50 hl tuns.
The blend
Grenache (70%)
Mourvèdre (20%)
Counoise (5%)
Cinsault (5%).

The tasting
Expressive and elegant, Les Hauts-Lieux 2010 by Domaine de la Vieille Julienne reveals a beautiful complexity. Aromas of black fruits and wild flowers mingle harmoniously with woody notes and tight tannins, giving this wine a pleasant length throughout the tasting.
