Description
The freshness and richness of a fine Loire white wine
The estate
Since 1513, the Joseph Mellot family estate has been an essential reference for Loire wines. Renowned well beyond the French borders, the wines by Joseph Mellot, made with integrity and respect for the environment, authentically express the diversity and richness of the terroirs of Sancerre.
Following the death of her husband, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has been perpetuating the quality and tradition of this estate since 2005. Joseph Mellot is the only estate to have parcels in every appellation of the Centre-Loire. This unique feature is indeed the estate’s strength as their vineyards cover an area of approximately 105 hectares.
Made from a selection of the best terroirs and rigorous vinification, the wines from the Joseph Mellot estate are renowned for their elegance, their precision and the unique expression of each Cru that makes up its vineyard.
The vineyard
Joseph Mellot's Châtellenie 2021 is a Sancerre wine that stems from an 18-hectare vineyard. The vines are 30 years old on average and are planted on clay soil, mostly composed of flint.
The wine
In the Middle Ages, the Châtellenie was the smallest administrative unit. It refers to the territory over which the master of the castle exercises his rights. Poised in the centre of this territory, this castle is the chief town of the châtellenie.
The vintage
The cold, wet winter precedes a cool, rainy spring, as does the summer. The autumn is then marked by cool, wet conditions.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by machine and pressed directly. Cold settling precedes fermentation and the selected juices are aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
The blend
Sauvignon Blanc (100%).
