Description
A fresh and gourmand dry white wine from Sauternes
The estate
An 1855 Premier Cru Classé of the AOC Sauternes, Château Suduiraut boasts 92 hectares devoted to the vine. Bordering the vineyards of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th century property whose gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre. In 1992, the property was acquired by AVA Millesimes. The estate is best known for its golden wines produced through strict and very precise plot selections.
The vineyard
The 91-hectare vineyard of the estate is planted in gravelly and sandy clay soils and certified for High Environmental Value. This well-draining and lean soil pushes the vine to stretch its roots deep into the terroir, resulting in wines with a strong character. The 35-year-old vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable farming.
The vintage
In Sauternes, the 2019 vintage began with plenty of contrasts. The heat in the summertime eliminated any potential health risk for the fruit.
The winemaking
Harvests from the 4th to the 16th of September.
The ageing
Ageing for 6 months, 75% in vats, 25% in barrels of which 23 % new oak.
The blend
Sémillon
(52%), sauvignon blanc (48%)
The tasting
The Dry White of Suduiraut 2019 reveals a bright yellow colour with green reflections. Powerful and well developed, the nose reveals floral fragrances, white fruits and lemon. Upon aeration, delicate hints of red fruit appear. The attack is round, leading to a palate that combines the texture and power typical of Sémillon, as well as the fruit qualities of Sauvignon. The finish offers citrus zest and a touch of minerality.
