Description
The quintessence of the Condrieu hillside
A single-varietal wine of Viognier, the emblematic white grape of the Northern Rhone Valley and the Condrieu appellation, Pagus Lumini 2016 from Domaine Louis Cheze has been produced since 1993 from a 2-hectare, south-facing plot facing at the top of the Limony hillside. The vines here grow in granite soils rich in leucocratic migmatite, which lends a very particular minerality to the wine. Coming from vineyards aged 25 years on average, the Pagus Lumini 2016 from Louis Cheze is aged in barrels of 1 to 2 previous wines for a period of 8 to 10 months. This Condrieu wine is not filtered before bottling.
Displaying a beautiful bright golden yellow colour in the glass, the Pagus Lumini 2016 releases on the nose pleasant aromas of white flowers, along with peach, which is quite typical of the Viognier variety. On the palate, this wine is supple, consistent with the aromas of the nose. This Louis Cheze wine offers a long finish, which is quite mineral, very representative of the soil. Consume before 2020 to enjoy the freshness of the fruit and after to discover more complex tertiary aromas. This is a Condrieu wine to drink on its own, as an aperitif or paired to fish or shellfish.
