The estate

The Lucien Crochet estate was created from the merger of the properties of André Crochet and Lucien Picard. It has gradually expanded to its current size of 38 hectares in the Sancerre appellation. The vineyard extends mainly over the village of Bué, but also in Sancerre, Crézancy and Vinon. While 29 hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, 9 hectares are planted with Pinot Noir on these Loire terroirs.

The vineyard

Chêne Marchand 2017 from Lucien Crochet is a Sancerre wine made from a blend of several plotss with multiple orientations (south, south-east, south-west) planted in the hamlet of "Le Chêne Marchand" halfway up the hill, between 240 and 260 metres in altitude. The shallow, well-drained soils lie on a limestone terroir of Oxfordian soil, called caillottes.

Winemaking and ageing

Harvested by hand, the grapes were then pressed in whole bunches. After cold settling for about 36 hours, the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks and demi-muids (up to 10%) for 20 to 30 days. This Loire wine was then matured on the lees for 10 months, then racked and blended at the end of July 2019. Further maturation on fine lees for 5 months then filtration and bottling in January 2020.
