Description

A refined and aromatic Pommard wine by Olivier Leflaive

The estate

Established at Puligny-Montrachet since 1635, the Leflaive family has preserved the tradition of great Burgundy wines by producing one of the world’s finest expressions of the chardonnay grape.

At the head of this unmissable Burgundy estate, Olivier Leflaive has become an emblematic figure in the Côte de Beaune. Olivier Leflaive was born in 1945 at a time when his family owned a vineyard extending over 20 hectares. Having taken the reins of the family business, Olivier Leflaive founded in 1985 Olivier Leflaive Frères, his own ageing and winemaking comany which created the « haute couture » Burgundy trade.

The vineyard

Slowly built up, the estate's vineyard now extends over 17 hectares of vines placed on the greatest terroirs of Burgundy. The house also buys grapes from the best winegrowers in the Côte de Beaune. In total, the Olivier Leflaive House has 120 hectares of vines at its disposal to produce great white wines from the wonderful appellations of Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault, as well as Chablis and Côte Chalonnaise.

The wine

This Pommard Premier cru "Pezerolles" 2018 is a Pommard wine that stems from a vineyard in the north part of the appellation, of a surface of 5.91 hectares facing south-east, halfway up a hill on brown, limestone soils. At an altitude between 260 and 280 metres, the terroir benefits from ideal conditions through its height and good drainage to ensure its grapes’ excellent early ripening. The vineyard was planted between 1959 and 1984.

Pommard Premier cru "Pezerolles" 2018 from Olivier Leflaive takes its name from the old landowners, the Pezerolles family

Winemaking and ageing

Harvested by hand, the grapes were rigorously sorted to only keep those of the best quality and perfect ripeness. Total destemming. Alcoholic fermentation in open vats. Vatting for 18 days. Ageing over a 16 month period (of which four months was in mass assembly) in oak casks (of which 30% were new).
