Description
The typicality of a white wine from Hermitage revealed by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné
The estate
An emblematic name for the great wines of the northern Rhône Valley, the Paul Jaboulet-Aîné House was founded in 1834 in Tain L’Hermitage. The reputed oenologist and winegrower, Caroline Frey, runs this illustrious house, owned by the Frey family since 2006.
The vineyard
The Paul Jaboulet-Aîné House overlooks a 125-hectare vineyard, spread across exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and even Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The wine
Wounded during the Albigensian Crusade in 1224, the knight Gaspard de Sterimberg asked Queen Blanche of Castile for permission to settle on a hill, on which he founded his hermitage. He built the Saint-Christophe Chapel there in 1235.
The vines, aged by around 35 years, are planted on clay-limestone and clay-sand soils, giving this 2019 Chevalier de Stérimberg by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné the complexity and elegance of a Hermitage wine.
Blend
The 2019 Chevalier de Stérimberg by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné is made from a blend of Marsanne (70%) and Roussane (30%).
