Description
A fresh and powerful white South African wine
The estate
Located in the Swartland region of South Africa, the Sadie Family estate was founded in 1999 by Eben Sadie and his brother and sister. After having travelled extensively in Europe, this passionate winegrower decided to revive the old vines of his native land while planting grape varieties from southern Europe adapted to the Mediterranean-like climate of the Cape. This atypical South African winemaker is today the charismatic face of the revival of quality South African wines. For more than two decades, his constant quest for excellent quality has been unparalleled and his wines are now sought after all over the world.
The vineyard
Skurfberg Chenin Blanc 2021 is a Western Cape wine from the Citrusdal Mountain. Sableux, le sol est principalement constitué de formations de grès décomposées de Table Mountain. The soil is sandy and consists mainly of sandstone formations broken down from Table Mountain.
The wine
The name of this wine, which translates as "rough mountain", refers to the ruggedness of the arid mountainous region of Citrusdal.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes were harvested in small crates and then placed in a cooling room to reduce the temperature, which often reaches 35 degrees at harvest time. Whole bunch pressing for about three hours before transferring to two tuns. Natural fermentation can last from 10 days to 6 months, sometimes not finishing until the following spring. Aged in barrel on the lees for 12 months. A small amount of sulphur was added 2 weeks before bottling.
