The wine

Macán de Vega Sicilia & Rothschild is a Rioja wine that is the result of a close Franco-Spanish collaboration between two distinguished winemaking institutions. Initiated in 2004, the joint venture between Vega Sicilia and Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild brings out all the nuances and complexity of Spain's finest terroirs in wines made from a meticulous plot selection in a 98-hectare vineyard.

"Macán Clásico" from Vega Sicilia & Rothschild 2019 is made from plots in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, Ábalos, Navaridas and Elvillar, where the vines are an average of 32 years old and are planted at an altitude of 483 metres on sandy-loam soils.

Tasting

Nose
Complex, the nose mixes fruity notes (blackberries, morello cherries, black cherries), vanilla and spices (oriental spices) with delicious coffee, chocolate, toast and oak scents.

Structured and aromatic, the palate unveils firm tannins underlined by subtle graphite and nutmeg notes at the finish.
