Description
A robust and tasty Saint-Joseph
A wine made from a blend of grapes from different terroirs, the Saint-Joseph François de Tournon 2013 from Maison Delas Frères is a fantastic wine with a great quality-price ratio from the Northern Rhône Valley, specifically from the Saint-Joseph appellation.
While the wines of Saint-Joseph already graced the tables of monarchs around the world in the 16th century, this wine from Delas takes its name from Cardinal François de Tournon, a French statesman born in Tournon-sur-Rhône in 1489.
A monovarietal wine, the Delas Saint-Joseph François de Tournon 2013 pays homage to the varietal of choice of this appellation: Syrah. The region’s terroirs, characterised by light soils of schist and gneiss on granite lends a particular identity to this wine.
In the glass, the Saint-Joseph François de Tournon 2013 from Maison Delas Frères sports an elegant ruby colour with garnet reflections. In its youth, the intensity of black fruit notes (blackcurrant) seduces with its freshness and concentration. Over time, the unique personality of Syrah is revealed, through notes of black fruit compote, with hints of fresh white pepper adding a touch of spice. On the palate, the dense, full-bodied attack is perfectly balanced with fine tannins. The finish offers a beautiful minerality, truly expressing the character of its terroir. An accessible and robust St. Joseph to enjoy now or age in bottle until 2030.
