The Structure and Creaminess of a Loire White Wine
The Estate
Since 1513, the family estate Joseph Mellot has been an essential reference for Loire wines. Recognized beyond borders, the wines bearing the Joseph Mellot label, crafted with integrity and respect for the environment, authentically express the diversity and richness of the Sancerre terroirs.
Following the death of her husband, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has upheld the quality and tradition of this estate since 2005. Joseph Mellot is the only estate to have plots in every appellation of the Centre-Loire. This uniqueness is the strength of the estate, whose vineyard spans approximately 105 hectares.
From a selection of the finest terroirs and a rigorous vinification process, the wines of the Joseph Mellot estate are renowned for their elegance, precision and the distinctive expression of each cru composing its vineyard.
The Vineyard
The grapes used in the production of this Loire wine come from a vineyard called « Les Caillottes » of 2.4 hectares, whose vines are the oldest on the estate.
The Wine
This Sancerre wine by Joseph Mellot is a flagship of quality among the estate's wines. The Châtelaines were the women who lived at the Château.
Vinification and Aging
Machine-harvested, the grapes undergo direct pressing. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, 30% of which are new. The aging of this Sancerre white wine lasts 24 months in casks with regular bâtonnage.
Grape Variety
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
