Description
A full-bodied Crémant d'Alsace with delicate effervescence
The estate
Situated in Orschwihr, in the heart of the Alsatian wine region, the estate Valentin Zusslin traces its origins back to 1691, when it was known as "Cisle". Passed down through thirteen generations within the same family, it marketed its wines in bulk until 1970, when Valentin Zusslin decided to bottle them under his own name. In 1997, Jean-Marie Zusslin embarked on a profound transition to biodynamics, which was certified in 2000. Since the early 2000s, his children, Marie and Jean-Paul, have upheld this commitment to quality while diversifying production with eaux-de-vie and whisky since 2014.
The vineyard
The vines destined for this Crémant d'Alsace flourish on marly and limestone soils. Biodynamic management allows for harvest at optimal maturity, slightly later than usual, promoting the attainment of ripe grapes while preserving the high acidity essential to the final balance.
Winemaking and ageing
The base wines benefit from a minimum of 9 months' ageing on lees before secondary fermentation. This is followed by 12 months' ageing on laths, enhancing the aromatic complexity and finesse of this cuvée.
Blend
This Crémant d'Alsace Brut is the result of a blend of Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Riesling and a small proportion of Chardonnay.
