Yves Cuilleron : Les Chaillets 2020

A fine Rhône Valley white wine that offers an age-worthy, delicate and fresh expression

The estate

In 1920, this estate emerged when Claude Cuilleron started to work on this land, seeking to produce fine wines. Since then, three generations have succeeded one another at the head of the house and has passed on an ancestral know-how that is steeped in tradition. In 1987, Yves Cuilleron, Claude's grandson, took over the running of the estate and personally saw to it that its reputation beamed beyond borders. Thanks to his passion and dynamism, he transformed his grandfather's 3.5 hectares of vines into a vast wine estate that covers 90 hectares. Today, inextricably linked to its talented owner, Cave Yves Cuilleron is one of the finest references in the Northern Rhône Valley.

The vineyard

Les Chaillets 2020 is a Condrieu wine that stems from a selection of parcels located in the heart of the appellation. These vines are rooted in a granite terroir which allows the Viognier varietal to exhibit a mineral and elegant expression. To preserve this precious terroir, Yves Cuilleron does not use insecticides and the little amount of fertiliser used is organic.

The wine

The name "Les Chaillets" is the local name for terraces, which refers to the layout of the region's vineyards on stone terraces.

Vinification and ageing

Following manual harvesting, the estate carries out a traditional, plot-based vinification process. Oenological products are set aside as much as possible, favouring wild yeasts. Following alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 8 months on its lees, 50% in 30-hectolitre wooden tuns and 50% in Burgundian barrels without racking. The different parcels are blended before bottling.

The blend

Viognier (100%).
