The aromatic expression and balance of a 100% Malbec by Bodega Noemia

The producer

Located in Argentina in the Rio Negro region, Bodega Noemia was founded by two enthusiasts, Italian Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano and wine producer and Danish winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers. The acquisition and restructuring of the vineyard of an old wine estate founded in the 1930's made it possible to unveil in 2001 the first vintage of the estate, which achieved immediate success. Over the course of the vintages, the Bodega Noemia develops a range of wines of a great finesse, from old vines implanted on a mosaic of exceptional terroirs.

The wine

This Malbec 2016 by Bodega Noemia is the product of a vineyard of 1.5 hectares cultivated in biodynamics since 2006. This exceptional terroir is spread over 4 plots, each with its own soil type (clay, sand, limestone, pebbles, silt). Planted in 1932, the pre-phylloxera vines have been preserved by a rigorous massal selection. Uncloned, the vines are genetically distinct. Irrigation is carried out by flooding, as is traditionally practiced within this region.

The vintage

The winter was particularly mild, marked by plenty of rainfall. Spring frosts in November affected the yields but not the quality. The summer season brought freshness with high temperature peaks in February and March, before a long and mild autumn season. The vintage was recognized as excellent in Argentina.

Winemaking and ageing

Each of the 4 plots was harvested at optimal maturity. Following a rigorous selection, 75% of the grapes were destemmed and the rest kept in whole cluster. Carried out on a plot-by-plot basis in 4 French oak barrels specially designed for the property, the spontaneous fermentation was accompanied by pour-overs and then punch-downs. A rapid pressuage preceded malolactic fermentation in half-muids of 600 liters and then breeding for a duration of 15 months.

The blend

100% Malbec.

Food and wine pairing

This Malbec 2016 of the Bodega Noemia ideally accompanies a lamb of Patagonia.

Serving

For an optimal tasting, serve at 16°C. Following the opening of the bottle, the wine unveils in the next 48 hours a rich aromatic palette.
