Description

The uniqueness of the terroir in an exceptional harmonious and mineral Saint-Émilion wine

The estate
Premier Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion, Château-Figeac embodies the excellence of great Bordeaux wines worldwide. Owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years, Château-Figeac is under the co-management of Jean-Valmy Nicolas and its director, Frédéric Faye.

The vineyard
Château-Figeac benefits from an exceptional location, to the west of the Saint-Émilion appellation, bordering the Pomerol appellation. The estate’s vineyard covers 40 hectares of vines and is planted on three different gravel rises. Respect for biodiversity, flora and fauna is at the heart of the estate’s concerns.

The vintage
After a historically mild winter that led to an early bud break, the threat of frost emerged over four nights in April and May. From mid-June onwards, the dramatic climatic shift with high summer temperatures allowed the vine to catch up. The parcels most exposed to the sun were not leaf-thinned to avoid sunburn. The temperature swings in August promoted polyphenol ripening and a fine concentration of aromas while preserving great freshness. Harvesting began on September 13 and concluded four weeks later with superb grapes. The vinifications of the 2019 vintage were carried out gently and without the use of sulfur, with an extraction program tailored to each vat. From the moment of racking, the 2019 harvest left no doubt as to the exceptional nature of this vintage.

Blend
Merlot (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (34%), Cabernet Franc (36%).

Characteristics and Tasting Recommendations for Château-Figeac 2019

Tasting

Color
The color displays a deep, shimmering amaranth red with purple highlights. Intensely aromatic with great purity.

Nose
The bouquet expresses the typicity of each grape variety. The Cabernets punctuate the bouquet with red and black fruit notes accompanied by delicate floral hints.

Palate
On the palate, the attack reveals from the very first moments a dense, indulgent texture. Harmonious, the palate develops by unfolding a caressing substance that attests to the fine quality of the Merlots. It is in an incredibly persistent finish that the finesse and minerality of the Cabernets bring a great, deliciously fruity freshness. Sculpted and reflecting all the uniqueness of its original terroir, this '9' vintage will help write the history of the estate’s great years.
