Description
A sophisticated and intense Priorat red wine by Clos Mogador
The producer
An iconic name among the finest Priorat wines, Clos Mogador’s roots date back to the 12th century. The estate started a new chapter in its story when Isabelle and René Barbier acquired this then neglected terroir in 1979, their goal being to restore this Spanish vineyard to its former glory. The couple decided to name their estate "le Clos Mogador" as a tribute to Elisabeth Barbier, René Barbier's aunt and renowned author of the famous book "Les gens de Mogador".
A pioneer, René Barbier produces rare wines that magnify the mineral and fruity expression of Priorat.
The vineyard
The vineyard The Clos Mogador watches over an exceptional vineyard located within a majestic natural amphitheatre. The old vines are planted on slopes and on black slate soils called "llicorella", typical of the Priorat appellation. Despite very low yields, this vineyard produces wines renowned for their intense aromatic richness.
The wine
Clos Mogador 2019 is made from a 20-hectare vineyard whose terraces and slopes are located about 350 metres above sea level.
Vinification and ageing
This wine is aged for 18 months in 300 litre barrels and 2,000 litre tuns.
The blend
Clos Mogador 2019 comprises a blend of Garnatxa, Carinyena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The tasting
Clos Mogador 2019 seduces due to its aromatic richness, its intense fruity notes as well as its great finesse.
