Description

The minerality and aromatic palette of a Loire white wine

The estate

Arnaud, Lionel and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois are the third generation to be at the helm of the family estate which was created in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois. Comprising a surface area of 72 hectares, the Famille Bourgeois vineyard spreads over a mosaic of soils made up of clay-limestone, Kimmeridgian marl and flint, which contribute to the signature style of each of these Loire wines.

Due to the passion and rigour lent to the vineyard management and the parcel-based vinification, a practice that they pioneered, Famille Bourgeois produce wines that are renowned for their quality, their finesse and their pure expression of each of these fine terroirs of origin.

The vineyard

This 2016 Les Côtes aux Valets by Famille Bourgeois is a Sancerre wine that stems from a 1.06-hectare plot in the south of the appellation. Planted in 1986, the vines are planted on a soil composed mainly of limestone clay.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand and slowly pressed at low pressure. Natural clarification of the must for 2 to 3 days, accompanied by stirring of the lees to reveal the aromatic potential of the grapes. After settling, alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats at 15 to 19°C for 30 days. Racking then ageing in vats on fine lees until Christmas, followed by 7 months of additional ageing in bottles before being put on the market.

The blend

Sauvignon Blanc (100%).

The tasting

Colour

The colour is a beautiful golden hue.

Nose

Fine and discreet, the nose opens with fragrances of dried fruit, almond and pistachio. When aerated, a subtle minerality is sustained by notes of orange zest and plum.

Palate

A supple attack precedes a palate that seduces with its roundness and minerality. The finish is persistent with aromas of mirabelle plum and citrus zest.

Food and wine pairing

The fullness and structure of this Sancerre white wine will complement white meats, fish or mature cheeses.

Service

For an optimal tasting experience, serve between 13 and 14°C.
