Description
The elegance and richness of a great Italian wine
The estate
The Mastroberardino estate is a leading example of the great wines of southern Italy and bears witness to a unique winegrowing heritage. For over 200 years, ten generations of passionate winegrowers have succeeded one another, all driven by the desire to reveal the finest expression of the terroirs of Campania and Irpinia in Italy. Today, guided by the artistic spirit of Piero Mastroberardino, the 250-hectare family estate thrives at the heart of three prestigious appellations: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Taurasi.
The wine
First produced in 1986 in the Taurasi Riserva appellation, Radici Riserva 2016 is the fruit of long research and selection work on the different exposures and soil types in the vineyard.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the highest part of the Montemarano estate, which covers 14 hectares in the historic heart of the appellation. The vines, which are on average 20 years old, are situated at an altitude of 550 metres, facing south-east. They are planted on clay-limestone soils at a density of 3,500 vines per hectare.
Winemaking and ageing
After manual harvesting, this great Campania red wine undergoes a long maceration on the skins. After vinification, the wine is aged for 30 months in oak barrels from France and Slavonia. Finally, this cuvée is aged in bottle for 30 months before being released on the market.
