Characteristics and tasting advice for Morlet's Mon Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Tasting
Color
This wine reveals a deep red with purple reflections.
Nose
It seduces with an intense and complex bouquet combining red and black fruits, enhanced by touches of licorice, fresh blond tobacco and a hint of lavender.
Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate extends the aromas of the nose with a tannic structure that is both rich and perfectly balanced, revealing remarkable intensity. The finesse of the tannins and the aromatic depth harmoniously unite to offer a finish of beautiful length. Designed to age gracefully, this exceptional wine reaches its peak after a few years of aging.
A California red wine combining power and refinement
The property
Founded in 2006 by the Franco-American couple Luc and Jodie Morlet, Morlet Family Vineyards enhances the prestigious terroirs of Sonoma County and Napa Valley. Heir to a Champagne wine-growing lineage for five generations, Luc Morlet, a graduate in oenology from Reims, honed his skills at Château Dauzac in Margaux before settling in California alongside Jodie. Together, they first created vineyards dedicated to cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc before expanding their palette to other grape varieties such as pinot noir or chardonnay. Praised by the greatest critics, the wines of the estate enjoy unanimous recognition.
The wine
Handcrafted using traditional winemaking techniques, this special wine is dedicated to their son, Paul Morlet. It is "Mon Chevalier" or "My Knight".
The vineyard
Located at the foot of Knights Valley, our vineyard, composed of typical clayey, pebbly and silty soils of the Red Hills, benefits from the proximity of Mount St. Helena. This warm and windy climate is ideal for the long maturation of Bordeaux red grape varieties: cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, malbec and petit verdot.
Vinification and aging
Nighttime manual harvesting ensures the freshness of the berries, transported in crates in refrigerated trucks. A meticulous sorting, carried out manually bunch by bunch and berry by berry, ensures optimal selection. Natural fermentation, initiated by indigenous yeasts, is accompanied by punch-downs in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, with the support of Gyrobox™ technology. After aging for 16 months in carefully selected French oak barrels, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration, to preserve all its authenticity.
