Description
The typicality of a Second Wine from the Saint-Julien appellation
The estate
Château Léoville Poyferré, Second Classified Growth from Médoc in 1855 which origins date back to the beginning of the 17th century, is one of the most prestigious estates on the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. Masterfully managed by the Cuvelier family and neighbour of illustrious estates such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Les Cases, Château Léoville Poyferré enjoys a terroir reputed for its sparse soils of Garonne gravel, perfect for the vineyard to flourish. In a perpetual quest for perfection, the plot-based vinifications are followed by the oenologist Michel Rolland, who gently extracts the most authentic expression of each plot and grape variety. Château Léoville Poyferré’s wines dazzle with their elegance, depth, balance and power.
The vineyard
Château Léoville Poyferré 2020 is derived from a 60-hectare vineyard, where the vines, aged by 39 years on average, are planted on Mindel gravel terraces upon clayey-sand subsoils.
The wine
Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré is the Second Wine of the estate.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested manually in crates, the bunches are rigorously sorted to keep only the berries of the best quality. Plot-based vinification is carried out in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out using selected yeasts. Ageing, which lasts for 18 months, is carried out in barrels of two previous wines.
Blend
Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Merlot (24%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Petit Verdot (8%).
