Description
The creaminess and refinement of a Saint-Julien wine
The estate
Château Léoville Poyferré, Second Cru Classé of the Médoc in 1855, places its origins in the early 17th century. Managed by the Cuvelier family and famous neighbouring estates such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Las Cases, Château Léoville Poyferré benefits from a terroir renowned for its poor Garonne gravel soils, ideal for the vineyard to flourish. In a constant pursuit of perfection, the vinification of each plot is monitored by the oenologist Michel Rolland, with the view to gently extract the most authentic expression from each grape variety and each plot. The wines of this illustrious estate on Bordeaux’s Left Bank dazzle with their elegance, depth, balance and power.
The vineyard
Château Léoville Poyferré 2015 is a Saint-Julien wine that stems from a terroir where the vines, 35 years old on average, are planted on Mindel gravel terraces on clay-sandy subsoils.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand in small crates, the bunches were meticulously sorted (manual sorting then optical sorting) to only keep the best quality grapes. Plot-based vinification took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tronconical vats. Pre-fermentation cold maceration before alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts, then malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Ageing over a period of 18 to 20 months took place in French oak barrels (80% new, 20% of one wine).
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (65%)
Merlot (26%)
Petit Verdot (6%)
Cabernet Franc (3%).
