A Beautiful Barossa Valley Shiraz in the style of Penfolds
Created in 2008 because of the exceptional quality of the fruit that year, Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz expresses all the richness of the Marananga sub-region through the inimitable Penfolds style.
Marananga (two hands in the Aboriginal language) is a region located near the center of the Barossa Valley, a region popular among tourists in South Australia, 60 km northeast of Adelaide. This area produces some of the best wines of the country, thanks to its unique soil composition and microclimate. The warm temperatures and dry soils rich in red earth with iron nuggets lend a certain richness and unique personality to the black red grape variety of the zone, Shiraz (Syrah).
Matured for 16 months in French oak barrels (18% new and 18% second-use) and in American oak barrels (25% new and 39% second use), the Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz 2015 offers an alternative Shiraz in a contemporary style, made with the traditional methods of Penfolds.
The Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz 2015 offers a fantastic expression of the Marananga region. In the glass, the wine displays a deep magenta purple colour, with an almost black core. Powerful, fruity and full-bodied, the nose provides an olfactory palette characterised by great intensity. The first notes to appear are aromas of spices, curry, cardamom and aniseed notes reminiscent of caraway. The nose evolves on rich black fruits, cherry, coffee and chocolate, with slightly toasted notes echoing the maturation in oak. On the palate, the wine reveals a beautiful aromatic development, underlined by flavours of small black fruits. The tannins offer a dense texture and fine grains, with a beautiful acidity at the end perfectly balancing the residual sweetness. Powerful in structure and texture, this is a great wine incorporating the identity of the Shiraz of this area, ready to be tasted or kept from 2018 to 2030.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz has decadent blueberry pie and crème de cassis notes with touches of milk chocolate, baking spices and dried mint. Full-bodied, rich and seductive in the mouth, it fills the palate with voluptuous, spice-laced black fruit and finishes on a minty note.
