Nestled at the foot of the majestic Sainte-Victoire mountain, Château Gassier extends over 40 hectares in the heart of Provence.
Location and area
Château Gassier benefits from a privileged location, situated at the foot of the majestic Sainte-Victoire mountain, in the very heart of the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire appellation. This estate extends over 40 hectares of organically farmed vines, benefiting from a remarkable situation in the upper Arc valley. The vineyard enjoys natural protection: the Sainte-Victoire mountain guards it to the north, the Regagnas massif surrounds it to the south, and the Auréliens mountains rise to the east. This exceptional setting, a true natural jewel case, offers ideal conditions for vine cultivation.
A fascinating history
The story of Château Gassier is closely intertwined with that of a passionate winemaking family. Acquired by the Gassier family in 1982, the estate embodies the dedication of six generations of artisan winemakers. In 2004, the esteemed family joined forces with a trusted partner when the estate became part of the Advini group. Today, Georges Gassier and his son Jean are proudly carrying on the family’s expertise, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Under the leadership of Olivier Souvelain from 2010 onwards, the estate made a firm commitment to organic farming, obtaining certification in 2016 — a strong statement of its dedication to quality and environmental responsibility. The family legacy continues, with Jean Gassier soon to join his father Georges, ensuring the preservation and continuity of this exceptional savoir-faire.
A remarkable terroir
Situation and exposure
The vineyard enjoys an ideal position within the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire appellation area. It is protected to the north by Sainte-Victoire, which rises to over 1,000 meters, to the south by the Sainte-Baume massif, and to the east by the Auréliens mountains. This site benefits from a unique microclimate in Provence, where the proximity of the Mediterranean tempers the climate, while continental influences favor optimal maturation.
Geology
The estate's soil is mainly composed of clay-limestone, punctuated by stony and sandy areas resulting from the erosion of Sainte-Victoire. This geological richness gives the wines remarkable complexity and typicity.
Climate
Château Gassier's vineyard benefits from a microclimate with continental dominance, subtly protected from sea winds by the surrounding reliefs. The Sainte-Victoire mountain acts as a true natural rampart, creating significant thermal amplitudes, conducive to aromatic development and grape freshness.
Cultural practices and sustainable commitment
Since 2016, the estate has been certified organic. Château Gassier essentially cultivates Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino) grape varieties, with deep respect for biodiversity and the natural balance of the terroir. The harvest, carried out exclusively at night, preserves the freshness of the grapes and avoids any risk of oxidation, thus guaranteeing optimal quality.
Château Gassier also distinguishes itself through its commitments to sustainable development: certification in regenerative agriculture, concrete actions for soil and biodiversity preservation, carbon footprint reduction and reasoned water resource management.
Winemaking and aging
Château Gassier's wines are the result of artisanal know-how combined with a creative and innovative approach. The rosés are obtained by direct pressing and cold settling, then vinified according to various methods (concrete vats, wooden barrels, demi-muids), depending on the cuvées, in order to reveal all the subtlety of each terroir.
The style of Château Gassier wines
Gassier Rosé, a fresh and elegant rosé
This Côtes de Provence, a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Vermentino, reveals aromas of peach, pear and citrus on the nose. The palate seduces with its balance between roundness and freshness, ending with a lively and persistent finish, characteristic of fresh and elegant Provence rosés.
Pas du Moine in rosé and white: freshness as emblem
Pas du Moine Rosé, the estate's emblematic cuvée, is crafted in the Château's historic concrete vats. This wine seduces with its freshness and the precision of its bouquet, dominated by persistent notes of citrus and exotic fruits. Its solid structure supports a long, elegant and flavorful finish.
Pas du Moine Blanc, from a blend of Vermentino and Ugni Blanc, reveals all the freshness and minerality of its exceptional terroir. It unveils aromas of citrus and white fruits, carried by a beautiful mineral tension that extends the tasting.
Cuvée 946, a sublime gastronomic rosé
Cuvée 946, an exceptional rosé from only 4.5 hectares (Syrah, Grenache, Rolle), pays homage to the Croix de Provence, whose name it bears after the altitude of the western point on which it culminates. Its meticulous vinification includes partial aging in demi-muids. This rare cuvée is characterized by a pale color, a complex nose blending red fruits and candied citrus, and a full, long palate, combining freshness, delicate vanilla notes and silky tannins. This wine has excellent aging potential, estimated at 5 years.
