Description
The finesse and freshness of a Rhône Valley red wine
The estate
Domaine Yann Chave is the reflection of a family’s passion for the vine. Founded in the early 1970s by his parents, the eponymous estate initially covered 4 hectares, one of which was devoted to vines and three to fruit growing. This dual cultivation, emblematic of the era, has been preserved while the estate has developed. In 1973, the Chave family began making their own wines, working with the Cave Coopérative de Tain until 1978. The following year, Nicole and Bernard Chave set up their own winery.
Passionate for and close to his vineyard, Yann set about restructuring the vines and adopting working methods that were more respectful of the soil. He later turned to organic farming, certifying the estate in 2007. Today, the estate covers 20 hectares in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, part of which is on the prestigious Hermitage hill.
The vineyard
Situated in the heart of the Rhône Valley, the vineyard stretches out on a mosaic of terroirs. It draws its richness from the three strong identities of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation: La Roche-de-Glun, Mercurol and Pont-de-l'Isère. These soils, bathed in sunshine and tempered by the Mistral, provide the ideal context for Syrah to flourish.
Winemaking and ageing
Fermentation, lasting 3 to 4 weeks, is followed by ageing in vats for 10 months.
