Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Castelmaure's Grenache Noir 2023
Tasting
Nose
The nose is generous and expressive, unfolding aromas of blackcurrant, juicy blackberry and fresh redcurrant. Notes of sun-drenched crushed strawberry mingle with wild-accented touches of liquorice. Ageing lends a subtle oaky imprint, with delicate hints of cocoa and discreet vanilla.
Palate
The palate is ample yet retains a remarkable sense of lift. Its silky, velvety texture caresses the palate with freshness rather than overpowering it. The long finish rests on a mineral, almost saline backbone, evoking warm stone and schist.
Food and wine pairings
This Grenache Noir is an ideal match for lamb braised with garrigue herbs. It also pairs beautifully with roast pigeon served in a rich red wine jus, alongside a spiced sweet potato purée.
Serving and cellaring
Serve the Castelmaure Grenache Noir 2023 at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. It may be lightly chilled before opening.

The estate
Founded in 1921 in Embres-et-Castelmaure, in the Languedoc, the Castelmaure cooperative winery brings together sixty growers farming 440 hectares. Under the oenological direction of Antoine Robert, this cooperative, a pioneer of carbonic maceration for Carignan, produces five ranges showcasing Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Its model rewards quality rather than volume, ensuring authentic wines that enjoy international recognition.
The vineyard
This Vin de France comes from the estate's finest hillsides, planted on pure schist. The vines grow at altitude, between 200 and 350 metres, on wind-exposed plots, and it is this wind that gives the wine its pronounced minerality.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Grenache Noir 2023 are carefully harvested, then destemmed. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats with regular pumping over. At pressing, only the first juices, the purest and most luminous, are kept for this cuvée. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in foudres.
