Description
An Haut-Médoc wine that harmoniously combines a rich and fresh expression
The estate
Located in the Haut-Médoc AOC, Château Cambon la Pelouse is one of the most illustrious references in its appellation. The estate was bestowed the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel title following the new classification, the title is applicable from the 2018 vintage to the 2022 vintage. Château Cambon La Pelouse is currently owned by Treasury Wines Estates, a world-renowned group that benefits from a wealth of experience in Australian, New Zealand, American and Italian vineyards.
The vineyard
A benchmark among Haut-Médoc wines, Château Cambon La Pelouse is well-situated on the edge of the Margaux appellation. Spread over 65 hectares, the vines are planted on soils composed of large, thin, sandy gravel that date back to the Quaternary period. The soils unique features enable the vineyard to drain perfectly while allowing the grapes to reach an optimal ripeness level as the heat is stored by the gravel throughout the day and released at night. 2021 marks the beginning of the vineyard’s conversion towards organic farming.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage was marked by particularly unstable weather conditions. The harvest dates for the different grape varieties have been precisely defined based on their ripeness level. While the Merlot grapes were harvested in the cooler months, the mild weather between mid-September and mid-October led to exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that showcased a perfect ripeness level.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification in stainless steel vats. Vatting time for 13 to 16 days. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels (40% new barrels and 34% second fill barrels) and in vats (26%).
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (21%) and Petit Verdot (7%).
