The vibrancy and aromatic brilliance of a great Pommard wine

The Producer
The Château de Pommard embodies more than a thousand years of winemaking history in the heart of Burgundy. Founded in 909 by Benedictine monks, it is one of the region’s oldest estates. Its development spans the centuries, notably shaped by the Micault family, who built the first château in the 18th century, and by the Marey-Monge, an influential lineage whose one member, a confidant of Napoleon Bonaparte, built a second château in 1802. Today, the estate combines this rich heritage with outstanding viticulture in service of Pinot Noir, the appellation’s emblematic grape variety.

The Vineyard
The Château de Pommard vineyard covers twenty hectares in a single block, in the heart of the famous Clos Marey-Monge, whose exceptional geological diversity - seven different terroirs - allows for a complex expression of Pinot Noir. Farmed biodynamically for several years, this vineyard benefits from meticulous work aimed at preserving biodiversity and expressing the typicity of each parcel with precision.

The Wine
This "Cuvée Simone" 2019 is a Pommard wine made from vines around 30 years old, planted on clay soils.

Vinification and Aging

Organically grown grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted on a vibrating table, then 100% destemmed. The must is transferred by gravity into stainless steel tanks, followed by several weeks of maceration with gentle extraction (limited pump-overs and punch-downs). Pressing is pneumatic, followed by 18 months of aging on fine lees in French oak barrels (20% new).
