Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Lafon-Rochet 2023

Having benefited from optimal climatic conditions, this vintage reveals lively, appetising and balanced Merlots, as well as Cabernets whose power is combined with a rich aromatic structure and elegant tannins.

A fresh Saint-Estèphe wine with a beautiful aromatic palette

The estate

The origins of the Château Lafon-Rochet date back to the 17th century. Located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château Lafon-Rochet distinguished itself in 1855 by achieving the title of Grand Cru Classé. In 1960, Guy Tesseron acquired the estate, and thanks to his work and passion, gradually elevated Château Lafon-Rochet to the top of its appellation. Basile Tesseron, the son of Michel Tesseron, took over the reins of the family estate from 2007 to September 2021, when businessman and founder of the Foncia Group, Jacky Lorenzetti acquired the estate. Jacky Lorenzetti owns several estates on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Lilian-Ladouys (Saint-Estèphe), Château Pédesclaux (Pauillac) and is also co-owner of Château d’Issan (Margaux).

The vineyard

With its golden yellow chartreuse, Château Lafon-Rochet is today a true standard among the great wines of Saint-Estèphe. The vineyard extends over 40 hectares superbly located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The vines, averaging 38 years old, are planted on two hills with different terroirs. The gravel soils promote excellent drainage while the clay helps regulate water stress.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (64%), Merlot (29%), Petit Verdot (4%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
