Description
A structured and fruity Pessac-Léognan white wine, presented in a refined isothermal case
The estate
Château Latour-Martillac owes its name to a tower standing in the château’s main courtyard. This tower is in fact the vestige of a 12th-century fort, once used to overlook the road from Bordeaux to Toulouse. Owned by the Kressmann family since 1871, Château Latour-Martillac achieved the title of Cru Classe des Graves in both red and white in 1953. Tristan and Loïc Kressmann continue to carry on the family tradition with passion and ambition, developing great red and white Graves wines.
The vineyard
Château Latour-Martillac benefits from an exceptional location in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The Martillac plateau is composed of a mosaic of gravel dating from the Quaternary, including flint, quartz, lydian and jasper. These soils constitute the terroir of choice for Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The other main terroir of the property is located closer to the Garonne, where we find clay-limestone and gravelly soils on the surface. This is where the Merlot and the white grape varieties of the property are planted (Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon).
The wine
Château Latour-Martillac x Etui L/UNIFORM 2016 is an exclusive collaboration between the estate and L/UNIFORM. This French leather goods company has created an elegant isothermal case, with a leather finish and an insulating material to keep a bottle at its optimal temperature.
The vintage
The mild and wet winter favoured an early and even budburst, followed by a cool and rainy spring. An episode of warmth and sunshine enabled full flowering to take place between 7 and 11 June. The hot and dry summer conditions did not impact the vineyard, thanks to sufficient water reserves, ploughing of the plots and the maintenance of foliage until the end of the harvest, which started 8 days late. A true Indian summer occurred during the month of September and was punctuated by rare rainfall. These conditions favoured the full ripening of the grapes as well as an exceptional and healthy condition, making this 2016 vintage a very fine one indeed.
Vinification and ageing
Château Latour-Martillac Blanc 2016 is fermented in barrels and then aged for 15 months on lees, including 11 months in barrels (25% new barrels).
The blend
Sauvignon Blanc (60%)
Semillon (40%).
