Description
The finesse and richness of a great Margaux wine
The estate
Château Palmer is a real star of the Margaux appellation, on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. Starting with biodynamic viticulture in 2009, the decision was made at Château Palmer to convert its entire vineyard in 2014. Having built its legend on vintages that have become legendary, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.
The vineyard
Château Palmer 2022 is a Margaux wine from an exceptional terroir located right next to the Gironde estuary. Château Palmer's grape varieties, which are unusual in the Médoc, are predominantly Merlot (47%), alongside Cabernet Sauvignon in equal proportions (47%) and Petit Verdot (6%).
The vintage
A winter of moderate rainfall preceded an early spring marked by frost from 2 to 5 April, which had a limited impact on the vines and the vegetative cycle. Flowering began on 18 May under hot, dry conditions and was rapid. The heat was offset by some beneficial thunderstorms at the end of June, before a particularly dry, scorching summer, which had an impact on yields, especially on young vines. Rainfall in mid-August boosted ripening. Despite their small size, the perfectly ripe grapes revealed an exceptional tannic structure combined with fine balance and a subtle blend of power and harmony.
Blend
Château Palmer 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (45%) and Petit Verdot (4%).
