Description

The sophistication and aromatic elegance of a red wine from Margaux, unveiled by Prieuré-Lichine

The estate

An iconic property of the Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Bordeaux region, Château Prieuré-Lichine boasts a prestigious heritage.

The vineyard

Château Prieuré-Lichine reigns over 77.5 hectares of vines on an extraordinary terroir. Planted in Garonne gravel typical of the Margaux appellation, the 30-year-old vines enjoy ideal growing conditions.

The vintage

3 factors had a major impact on the characteristics of this vintage: a rainy spring, a summer of great drought and, lastly, an early cycle.

The very rainy winter in November eased in February, inciting an early (mid-March) and homogeneous bud break. The high humidity in April and at the start of May led to significant mildew pressure. Flowering took place in good conditions. The summer conditions recorded from mid-June noted scorching peaks combined with very low rainfall, impacting the young vines. Ripening was quick, with heterogeneity between the plots and the grape skins, which remained thick. A stormy episode on 15 August was salutary to the vineyard, even though the rainfall did not make up for the water deficit. Harvests began on 14 September; although the grapes displayed low acidity, they were in very satisfactory health.

The winemaking and ageing

Harvests in crates. Vibrating sorting table. Manual and optic sorting. No crushing. Gravity-fed barrelling. Vatting for 28 to 30 days. Maceration accompanied by punch-downs. The ageing is carried out in barrels, of which 40% are new and 60% are barrels of one previous wine.

The blend

The 2020 Château Prieuré-Lichine is made of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (5%).

The tasting

The 2020 Château Prieuré-Lichine seduces with its rich and velvety tannins, its silky touch and its aromatic palette, which mixes notes of black fruits and spices.
