Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Strate 2024 Clos Constantin
Tasting notes
Nose
From the very first moment, the bouquet reveals itself as precise and luminous, exuding aromas of white peach, fresh pear and ripe lemon, underscored by a delicate touch of hawthorn. With aeration, a beautiful chalky minerality asserts itself, accompanied by nuances of wild fennel, citrus zest and fresh almond.
Palate
The palate stands out for its vibrant tension and great precision, carried by well-preserved natural acidity. The saline energy of the dominant grape variety balances perfectly with the breadth and tactile softness contributed by the other varieties. The long, persistent finish offers a sensation of wet stone and a delightful hint of bitterness.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with grilled fish such as turbot or sole, farmhouse poultry with candied lemon, or roasted root vegetables. It will also enhance delicate Mediterranean cuisine, such as a marinated octopus salad with citrus fruits accompanied by aged sheep's cheese.
Service and storage
Already very appealing in its youth for its fruity brilliance, the Strate 2024 has a fine structure allowing it to evolve favorably. It can be enjoyed until around 2033, with a peak expected between 2026 and 2029, a period during which it will develop notes of light honey and dried flowers.
The purity and freshness of a high-altitude white wine from the Languedoc
The estate
Founded in 2017, Clos Constantin is a rising star of the Languedoc. The story of this 15-hectare estate is rooted in the family heritage of Pierre Halley, whose great-grandfather Constantin already cultivated the vine. Today, Pierre Halley and his partner Samuel Durand head the estate. Driven by a philosophy centered on finesse and environmental respect, they led the vineyard to organic certification in 2021, followed by biodynamic certification in 2023. Their cuvées reflect a constant pursuit of authenticity and drinkability.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the site known as Les Champs de Traversiers, located in Argelliers in the Languedoc. Planted at an altitude ranging from 200 to 230 meters and facing Pic Saint-Loup, these plots benefit from a cooler microclimate. The clay-limestone soils, shaped by the proximity of a river, provide the vines with beneficial moisture and pronounced minerality, ideal conditions for white grape varieties to flourish.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly sunny weather. These mild climatic conditions allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, fostering the development of beautiful aromatic complexity while retaining plenty of brightness.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of the Strate 2024 favors a gentle, minimally interventionist approach. After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo direct pressing. Fermentation begins spontaneously through indigenous yeasts, potentially preceded by cold settling. Aging then takes place on fine lees in wooden demi-muids for 12 months, followed by a 6-month rest in tank after filtration.
