Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Tradition Barral 2020 from Domaine Léon Barral
Tasting
Colour
The colour is deep, ranging from purple to dark garnet hues.
Nose
The nose is intense and dominated by dark fruit. It is accompanied by notes of garrigue, tapenade and fresh spices. There are also wild berries, plum and cherry, along with a floral touch of violet and aromatic nuances of rosemary and thyme.
Palate
The palate is full and juicy, with fine tannins and lovely freshness. The mouthwatering finish evokes cherry and eucalyptus. The whole remains easy-drinking and focused.
Serving and cellaring
This Tradition Barral 2020 is made without any added sulphur. It is best kept in a cool cellar, protected from sudden temperature variations.

The estate
Domaine Léon Barral was born in 1993 with the creation of the private cellar at Lenthéric, a hamlet in Cabrerolles in the Hérault. It bears the name of the grandfather of Didier Barral, who runs it today. Previously, the family delivered its grapes to the cooperative. Located in the heart of the Faugères appellation, in the Languedoc, the estate combines vines, meadows, forests, cereals and livestock farming. Certified organic and inspired by biodynamics, it practises no-till farming and vinifies without oenological inputs.
The vineyard
This Faugères comes from steep, schistous slopes. The poor, free-draining schist soils force the roots to dig deep. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by maritime influences. The vines are managed according to the principles of organic farming. The soil is no longer ploughed and grass grows there year-round. Cattle and horses graze in the plots, and the estate's natural features promote biodiversity. Harvesting is done by hand.
Vinification and ageing
This Tradition Barral is vinified with indigenous yeasts, with manual punching down. Pressing is gentle, carried out in a vertical press. The wine then benefits from a long ageing period, without fining or filtration and without any added sulphur.
