Characteristics and tasting notes of Riesling "Clos des Capucins" 2024 Domaine Weinbach

Tasting notes

Color
The color reveals a delicate pale golden hue, characteristic of the region's white wines.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with subtle citrus notes, dominated by the freshness of lemon, accompanied by elegant touches of white flowers. A distinct minerality, reminiscent of flint, rounds out this precise ensemble.

Palate
The attack is lively and full of energy, carried by a lovely acidity. The palate offers crystalline precision with clean, well-defined flavors. Light to medium in body, this wine stretches into a persistent, refreshing finish, marked by hints of citrus.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs perfectly with seafood such as oysters or clams, as well as with delicate white fish (sole, turbot) prepared simply with a squeeze of lemon. It also goes very well with Asian cuisine, vegetarian dishes based on asparagus, or goat cheese. It can also be thoroughly enjoyed on its own as an aperitif.

To fully appreciate this Riesling "Clos des Capucins" 2024, it is recommended to serve it slightly chilled, at a temperature between 7 and 10°C.

The precision and elegance of an Alsace white wine

The estate

The winemaking history of Domaine Weinbach formally began in 1612 with the settlement of Capuchin monks in Alsace, France. Acquired in the 19th century by the Faller brothers, the estate has been entirely dedicated to viticulture since 1904. Today, Catherine Faller, supported by her sons Eddy and Théo Leiber-Faller, runs this 38-hectare family estate. A pioneer in its environmental approach, the estate is renowned for its rigorous organic and biodynamic farming, producing wines that faithfully reflect the richness and diversity of their terroirs.

The vineyard

Located at the entrance to the valley in Alsace, the historic terroir of Clos des Capucins benefits from a microclimate protected from prevailing winds by the surrounding hills. The vines thrive on soils composed of sandy-loam topsoil resting on a substrate of gravel and granite pebbles. This structure offers optimal drainage while retaining the necessary moisture. The entire vineyard has been certified organic since 1990 and biodynamic since 2005.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly wet weather conditions. Abundant rainfall led to significant pressure from fungal diseases, such as mildew and botrytis, requiring heightened vigilance and rigorous work in the vineyards. These climatic challenges inevitably led to lower yields at harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Riesling "Clos des Capucins" 2024 are hand-harvested to select berries at optimal ripeness. Fermentation takes place under temperature control, relying exclusively on indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in large wooden foudres or stainless steel tanks, without the use of new oak barrels, in order to preserve its aromatic purity.
