Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Gran Enemigo Torrontés 2023 by El Enemigo
Tasting
Colour
The wine shows a pale white hue with brilliant highlights, typical of white wines produced at altitude in Mendoza.
Nose
The nose reveals the aromatic typicity of Torrontés, a grape variety renowned for its expressive character, with floral notes and hints of citrus carried by the freshness of the high-altitude terroirs where it is grown.
Palate
On the palate, the wine charms with a balance between freshness and body, the result of the wide temperature swings in the high-altitude vineyards of the Uco Valley.
A White Wine from Mendoza Driven by the Aromatic Typicity of Torrontés
The Estate
Founded in 2009 in Mendoza, Argentina, the House of El Enemigo, the main label of Bodega Aleanna, was born from the meeting of historian Adrianna Catena and winemaker Alejandro Vigil, who now jointly lead it. The estate explores the high-altitude terroirs of the province, between Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, combining a technical approach to soils with a cultural and historical vision of wine. El Enemigo has made a name for itself through its ability to reinterpret a variety of grape varieties, including Torrontés, with a focus on high quality.
The Vineyard
The Torrontés vines used for this white wine are planted in the coolest and highest areas of the Mendoza province, particularly in the Uco Valley, at altitudes of up to approximately 1,600 metres. This high-altitude location, unusual for a grape variety generally grown in warmer areas, helps preserve natural freshness and aromatic tension, thanks to wide temperature swings between day and night.
Vinification and Ageing
The winemaking follows the estate's general philosophy, based on the use of indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention in the cellar, in order to allow the aromatic character of the grape variety and the identity of the high-altitude terroir from which it originates to express themselves fully.
Grape Variety
This white wine is made from Torrontés, an aromatic grape variety emblematic of Argentina.
