Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Escalada 2024 by F. Algueira
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful pale gold hue. In the glass, its texture hints at a dense substance and a generous volume.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, dominated by scents of orange blossom and lactic notes. The whole is subtly complemented by hints of fennel and pastry.
Palate
The tasting reveals a concentrated texture and intense fruitiness, offering remarkable weight without excess alcohol. A beautiful acidity brings liveliness and freshness to this ample wine, while the persistent finish fully expresses the minerality of the terroir.
Food and wine pairings
Thanks to its saline minerality and beautiful acidity, this white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters and rich fish served with a cream or butter sauce. It also goes perfectly with white meats seasoned with herbs, vegetarian dishes or Galician gastronomic specialties such as octopus or grilled fish.
Serving and cellaring
The Escalada 2024 has a structure that allows it to age in the bottle. This time in the cellar will encourage the development of beautiful tertiary complexity and the integration of its aromas.
The pure expression of a Spanish white wine on the dizzying slopes of Ribeira Sacra
The estate
Founded in 1980 by Fernando González Riveiro, who still runs the estate with his son Fabio, F. Algueira is a pillar of heroic viticulture in Galicia. Located in the Ribeira Sacra region, the property extends over 34.6 acres of vines on dizzying terraces. This family estate stands out for its commitment to restoring abandoned historic plots and showcasing indigenous grape varieties. F. Algueira is now globally recognized for its terroir-driven wines, combining ancestral traditions and technical precision.
The vineyard
The plot dedicated to this cuvée is located in the Amandi sub-zone, within the Ribeira Sacra appellation. The vines, with a south-westerly exposure, are planted on extremely steep slopes composed of slate soils. This unique terroir benefits from a Mediterranean microclimate that brings warmth, balanced by an Atlantic maritime influence that preserves the acidity of the grapes thanks to cool nights. The dizzying topography requires heroic viticulture and exclusively manual harvesting.
The vintage
The 2024 season offered exceptional weather conditions for crafting fresh and aromatic wines. The growing cycle made it possible to achieve a perfect balance between sugar concentration and the preservation of acidity. The harvest took place throughout September 2024.
Winemaking and aging
For the Escalada 2024, the grapes are mechanically destemmed before undergoing cold maceration and static settling. Fermentation begins spontaneously in tank thanks to indigenous yeasts, then continues in used 750-litre French oak barrels with light bâtonnage. After clarification, this Spanish wine is aged for seven months in stainless steel tanks, without contact with the lees, before continuing its aging in the bottle.
