Description
A singular expression of Bordeaux Clairet from Château Grand Corbin-Despagne
The Estate
Founded in 1812 by Louis Despagne, Château Grand Corbin-Despagne is a historic family estate located to the north-west of Saint-Émilion, in the renowned Bordeaux region. Today, François Despagne, the seventh generation of the family, runs the estate. He carries on the family legacy by combining an in-depth scientific approach to terroir with strong ecological values. A pioneer in its field, the estate stands out for its early commitment to the environment. It is certified organic and is moving towards biodynamics. This longevity and rigorous philosophy underpin the reputation of this Grand Cru Classé.
The Vineyard
The estate's vineyard covers 28.79 hectares on the edge of Pomerol. It rests on a complex mosaic of soils made up of ancient sands over blue clay and sandy-clay soils rich in iron deposits known as crasse de fer. A meticulous soil study has made it possible to divide this terroir into 53 distinct plots, all farmed without herbicides. Overall, the estate is planted with 75% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines averaging 38 years of age. This exceptional terroir inspired the creation of a rosé reminiscent of traditional Bordeaux Clairet, while biodiversity is preserved through natural grass cover and rigorous canopy management.
Grape Varieties
Heritage Vinum Clarum 2024 is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
