Decanter

Perfumed blackcurrants and damsons, a nice push of perfumed fruit on the nose, full and juicy, really alive in the glass—you really get the Cabernet Franc aspects which are so nice. Super high acidity, really searing and bright, lovely energy and a lightness of touch in the glass while still having the Pauillac signature. Minerality comes across in wet stone and graphite edges that convey the gravel terroir. Bright and supple with controlled acidity, supple and plush tannins, really plush and high-toned, fresh fruit. Feels well worked, focused and sleek—easy drinking.

Weinwisser

Delicate red-berry bouquet, chilled fruit tea and tarragon. On the elegant palate with a soft texture, supporting freshness and medium body. Aromatic finish of red currant and light tobacco.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Lacoste-Borie 2020 from Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a deep garnet-purple color. It gives notes of fresh blackcurrant, mulberries, and ripe plums, plus touches of lavender, cast-iron pan, and bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate has a seriously refreshing backbone, with chewy tannins and just enough fruit, finishing with an invigorating savoriness.

Le Figaro Vin

On the nose, freshness prevails, with a fine Bordeaux classicism of mint, eucalyptus, and tobacco leaf. On the palate, juicy, precise fruit. Indulgent, appetizing flavors, with a touch of coffee on a supple finish.

Yves Beck

Lacoste-Borie announces both pedigree and terroir! It knows where it comes from and makes sure to remind us through graphite nuances. The wine is compact and well supported by fine-grained tannins. They are quite imposing thanks to their creamy texture and precision. A Lacoste-Borie with substance that hints at the level one can expect for GPL.

Description

Grand-Puy-Lacoste presents a structured and delicious Second Wine from Pauillac

The estate

Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux, the Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste took its current form in 1855, although it was built as early as the 16th century. The vineyard was marked by the passage of Raymond Dupin from 1930 to 1978. He then sold the property to the Borie family in 1978 who have since carried out numerous renovations. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is today one of the most representative crus of the Pauillac appellation.

Lacoste-Borie is the Second Wine of the estate.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste represents 90 hectares of vines planted on deep gravelly hills within the Pauillac appellation. 60 hectares are planted in one piece. The vines are on average 38 years old.

The vintage

A very wet and mild winter promotes both the restoration of water reserves and the early bud break of the vine, which begins at the same time as the lockdown in France. If a snowfall is recorded on March 30, the mild conditions of spring allow the vine to develop under good conditions despite alternating rain, requiring rigorous attention from the château's teams to fight against diseases. From mid-June, dry and hot conditions set in until the weekend of August 12, marked by significant rain episodes that were beneficial for the vineyard. The alternation of hot days and cool nights in August is ideal for ensuring the good maturity of the grapes and achieving a significant tannic richness. The harvest begins on September 14 with high temperatures. The grapes are healthy, concentrated, aromatic and present well-ripened tannins.

Blend

Lacoste-Borie 2020 is made from a blend of cabernet sauvignon (56%), merlot (30%), cabernet franc (14%).
