Characteristics and tasting tips for Les Tours de Laroque 2020
Tasting
This vintage harmoniously combines deep aromatic richness with a generous texture underpinned by lovely vibrancy.
A fresh, balanced Saint-Émilion Second Wine
The estate
Standing proudly on its limestone plateau, Château Laroque overlooks the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé has been one of the region's strongholds for more than nine centuries and still boasts the largest wine estate in the appellation.
The vineyard
Château Laroque is a Saint-Émilion wine produced from a 61-hectare vineyard of old vines propagated by massal selection. Rooted in the starfish limestone plateaus characteristic of this appellation on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, the vines enjoy both east- and west-facing exposures, on soils of fine, bluish and highly calcareous clay.
The wine
While the vines averaging 50 years of age are devoted to the Grand Vin, Les Tours de Laroque, the estate's Second Wine, comes from a rigorous selection of vines aged 30 years or younger, propagated by massal selection from the original grape varieties.
Vinification and ageing
Hand harvesting carried out according to the ripeness of each terroir. Plot-by-plot vinification in small vats, with gravity-fed vatting. Aged on fine lees in second-fill barrels and foudres for 14 to 16 months.
Blend
Merlot (90%)
Cabernet Franc (10%).
