James Suckling

Stuart Pigott

So deep and complex, yet also brimming with herbal and floral aromas. On the full-bodied palate the monumental depth and great minerality are beautifully illuminated by dangerously fresh acidity that makes the wine lift off at the stunning finish. Surely has great long-term aging potential, though totally delicious now. Drink or hold.

On limestone. Pungent nose with boudoir hints of talc. Very ripe palate entry and almost oily on the end. A note of bitterness on the finish too. Big and powerful. (JR)

Yves Beck

The 2019 bouquet highlights the refreshing nature of this grape variety, combined with mineral, floral and fruity nuances within an overall sense of richness. Slightly mellow on the attack, the wine shows an incisive, saline and linear structure. The charming touch on the palate has a unifying, balancing effect, while subtle bitters enhance the finish. A brilliant wine that deserves a little patience on our part.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Geisberg Grand Cru 2019 Maison Trimbach

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant white hue.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the nose reveals aromas of white and exotic fruits such as fresh pear and guava, mingled with notes of citrus, ginger and menthol. Floral touches of jasmine, acacia and verbena harmonise with noble mineral and smoky nuances.

Palate
The palate offers a generous texture combining breadth and finesse. It stands out for its pure, precise acidity, which supports a deeply mineral structure. The tasting experience, marked by a pronounced salinity, stretches into an interminably long finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood and shellfish, such as pan-seared scallops with toasted hazelnuts. It also perfectly accompanies delicate white fish like turbot or sole, lightly spiced dishes from Asian cuisine, as well as soft-rind cheeses, including the traditional Munster.

Service and storage

The Geisberg Grand Cru 2019 can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve in the cellar, drinking well until around 2043.

Other characteristics

This wine stands out for its dry white wine profile, with a highly pronounced vertical structure typical of its intensely mineral terroir.

The pure, mineral expression of a great Alsace wine by Maison Trimbach

The estate

Founded in 1626 by Jean Trimbach, Maison Trimbach is a historic institution of winegrowing in Alsace, France. Established in Ribeauvillé since 1920, the estate spans around 63 hectares of vines certified organic. Today, the estate is led by the twelfth and thirteenth generations of the family, with Pierre, Jean, Anne, Julien, Frédérique and Pauline Trimbach at its helm. Named Brand of the Year in 2025, this family house continues a centuries-old expertise focused on balance, rigour and the authentic expression of its terroirs.

The vineyard

Located on the geological fault line of Ribeauvillé in Alsace, the terroir of the Geisberg Grand Cru extends over small, steeply sloped terraces facing due south and southeast. This distinctive vineyard rests on a complex subsoil composed of limestone and sandstone. The old vines benefit from optimal sunshine and a semi-continental climate sheltered by the Vosges mountains, encouraging deep rooting and exceptional aromatic concentration.

The vintage

The year 2019 falls within a hot, dry weather period. These summer climatic conditions resulted in exceptionally ripe grapes at harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Geisberg Grand Cru 2019 are harvested by hand. The berries are crushed and then gently pressed in pneumatic presses. The must then ferments and evolves in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine benefits from aging on fine lees for several months, followed by tangential ceramic filtration without cold stabilisation. After bottling, it patiently ages for five to six years in the estate's underground cellars before release.
