Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Mas de Daumas Gassac 2024
Tasting
Appearance
This red wine shows a deep, brilliant robe, revealing a beautiful intensity of colour.
Nose
The nose is powerful, driven by captivating aromas of cherry and blackcurrant.
Palate
The attack on the palate is marked by an explosion of red fruit, before giving way to an exceptionally elegant, velvety tannic structure. With every sip, this vintage reveals new nuances and deep flavours.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, marbled cuts of beef or lamb chops. It is also a delightful match for slow-cooked dishes made with tomatoes, herbs and olive oil, or for full-flavoured poultry served with a red fruit garnish.
Serving and cellaring
We recommend serving Mas de Daumas Gassac 2024 between 18 and 19°C, preferably in a large-bowled glass. Opening the bottle a few hours before tasting allows the wine to breathe gently. Decanting is always a plus to fully express its complexity.
A Red from the Upper Gassac Valley, Driven by Cabernet Sauvignon
The estate
Founded in 1971 by Véronique and Aimé Guibert, Mas de Daumas Gassac is a family-owned estate located in Aniane, in the Upper Gassac Valley, in the heart of the Languedoc. Now run by their sons Samuel, Gaël, Roman and Basile Guibert, the estate cultivates around forty hectares of vines surrounded by unspoiled garrigue. Renowned for its age-worthy wines made outside the classic appellations, Mas de Daumas Gassac has built an international reputation thanks to a singular terroir and a grape composition dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vineyard
Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge 2024 comes from vines in the Upper Gassac Valley, planted on deep, poor and perfectly drained glacial grèzes soils, in the heart of an unspoiled valley surrounded by garrigue. This cool Languedoc terroir, which is refreshed every night by the influence of the Larzac plateau, favours slow ripening and remarkable freshness. The vines, partly derived from massal selection, are classified as IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert – Cité d'Aniane, a framework that allows for a wide diversity of grape varieties.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by a spring with generous rainfall, giving the vines an ideal water reserve, followed by a hot but not excessive summer, conducive to gradual ripening of the grapes. The August rains, followed by an episode of 105 mm before the harvest, helped guide the berries towards a ripeness that was both subtle and fresh. The entirely manual harvest took place from 3 to 20 September 2024.
Winemaking and ageing
Mas de Daumas Gassac 2024 is vinified using a slow extraction method, with gentle pump-overs and infusion, and a long fermentation and maceration, without filtration. It is then aged for twelve to fifteen months in Burgundy and Bordeaux barriques between one and seven years old, adding structure and elegance without masking the expression of the fruit.
Grape varieties
Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge 2024 is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate's historic and emblematic grape variety, complemented by a mosaic of secondary red varieties that contribute to the richness and complexity of the blend, in keeping with the estate's singular philosophy.
