Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Mas Jullien Les Nouveaux États d'Âme 2024

Tasting

Colour
A deep ruby hue, enhanced by subtle violet highlights.

Nose
The bouquet opens with crisp aromas of black fruits, such as blackcurrant, cherry jam and plum, mingled with hints of fresh red fruits. With aeration, it reveals a lovely spiced complexity marked by white and black pepper, liquorice, camphor and mint, along with notes of garrigue, wild thyme and sage, rounded off by delicate toasted nuances.

Palate
The attack is round and unctuous, offering a creamy texture without any heaviness. The mid-palate, juicy and energetic, unfolds flavours of black fruits and spices, supported by silky, highly refined tannins. The finish, of lovely length, stands out for its saline minerality and notes of liquorice.

Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with duck tartare, grilled meats such as lamb, pork or feathered game, or a sweet potato mousse. It will also perfectly complement light Provençal cuisine, dishes rich in aromatic herbs, or Mediterranean seafood.

Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature of around 17°C. Approachable from its youth, it can be enjoyed today and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.

The fresh and contemporary expression of a great Vin de France from Mas Jullien

The estate
Founded in 1985 by Olivier Jullien and Jean-Philippe Granier, Mas Jullien is located in Jonquières, in the Languedoc, in the south of France. Still run today by Olivier Jullien, the estate is considered one of the pioneers of the region's qualitative revival. A staunch advocate of environmentally friendly viticulture, the estate follows the principles of organic and biodynamic farming. Mas Jullien is renowned for its commitment to producing authentic wines deeply rooted in their terroir.

The vineyard
This Vin de France comes from plots situated on sandstone and schist soils. The vineyard benefits from a strong temperature swing between day and night, as well as the refreshing influence of maritime winds. Vine management favours ploughing, controlled grass cover, short pruning and rigorous hand harvesting, in order to preserve biodiversity and soil health.

The vintage
2024 was characterised by climatic conditions that allowed for moderate ripeness to be achieved. The growing cycle thus produced berries combining a lovely expression of ripe fruit with a refreshing acidity and remarkable mineral precision.

Winemaking and aging
After careful hand-sorting, vinification takes place using whole bunches, driven by indigenous yeasts. Extraction is particularly gentle, with measured punching down and pumping over under controlled temperatures. Aging, lasting around six months, takes place in a combination of old foudres, demi-muids and sandstone jars, in order to preserve the freshness and brightness of the fruit without imparting oak character to the wine.

Grape varieties
Cinsault, Grenache Noir, Carignan Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
