Belle Epoque 2018 – atmosphere

Appearance

A beautiful golden hue.

Nose

From the very first pour, this wine captivates with a refined floral freshness, where enchanting notes of carnation, lime blossom and jasmine unfold. These delicate fragrances blend gracefully with the indulgence of luscious fruit, between apricot and vineyard peach.

Palate

Its texture is fine and silky, carried by a subtly spiced finish of Timut pepper and enlivened by a vivacity evoking mandarin leaf.

The Vintage

After a rainy and mild winter, spring 2018 was marked by above-average temperatures and contrasting rainfall. A particularly wet episode between mid-April and mid-May encouraged heavy mildew pressure, before a return to dry weather allowed for harmonious flowering. Summer was hot and dry, marking the vines with a sunny climate. The drought then persisted with high but measured temperatures, avoiding any extreme heat.

Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque bottle with flowers

"The structure of this cuvée recalls the grace of the carnation, an emblematic flower of Art Nouveau. Its notes are akin to the delicacy of this flower."

Séverine Frerson

Cellar Master of Maison Perrier-Jouët

The Terroir

To craft Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque, Séverine Frerson specifically selects Pinot Noir from two crus, Verzy and Mailly-Champagne, to the north of the Montagne de Reims, both characterised by their chalky soils.

The Taste

While each vintage of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque expresses the characteristics of a specific year, the 2018 vintage brilliantly showcases the full generosity of a sunny and abundant year.

The Moment

This cuvée pairs with a sea bass carpaccio with citrus or a spiny lobster with Timut pepper. Serve at around 12°.
