Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of Ardbeg's Dolce Limited Edition 2026

Tasting

Appearance
A captivating amber hue with orange highlights, evoking a Mediterranean sunset.

Nose
An aromatic bouquet where the ruggedness of Islay meets a Sicilian garden. The signature smoke intertwines indulgently with notes of apricot, ripe grapes, stewed apple and orange marmalade. Adding a few drops of water reveals a more savoury, earthy profile, releasing surprising aromas of roasted mushrooms, pine needles, olives and capers.

Palate
An oily, creamy texture that coats the palate with opulence. The attack unveils a measured sweetness of dates, dried fruits and lemon zest, swiftly followed by the warmth of spices: cinnamon, star anise and liquorice. Smoked wood, dark chocolate, salted nuts and dried herbs come to balance this indulgence. The remarkably long finish stretches on notes of smoked applewood, dry tobacco, campfire embers and lingering peaty oils.

Pairings and tasting occasions
To be enjoyed as an aperitif, neat, on the rocks or with a splash of water at room temperature. This single malt with a "dessert" profile excels at the end of the evening. It elevates bold savoury dishes such as barbecued roasted meats, Mediterranean cuisine or aged cheeses. On the sweet side, it forms a masterful pairing with a dark chocolate fondant, citrus desserts or a simple selection of dried fruits and nuts.

Mixology
Although this is an exceptional product that we recommend savouring neat to fully grasp its complexity, its expressive profile can inspire fine mixology. It will bring a spectacular dimension as a "float" on a Penicillin, or revisited in a Whisky Mac with ginger wine and a Godfather with amaretto, provided the ingredients are dosed sparingly so as not to mask its precious smoke.

Other characteristics
This Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Islay is intensely peated (approximately 50 ppm). Bottled at 47.8% vol. and non chill-filtered, it is presented in a 70 cl bottle, allowing for approximately 24 servings.

An intensely peated Islay Scotch whisky with Mediterranean sweetness by Ardbeg

Ardbeg: the untamed spirit of Islay Scotch whisky
Founded in 1815 on the rugged southern coast of the island of Islay, Ardbeg is a legendary distillery, world-renowned for its intensely peated Scotch whisky. After enduring periods of closure during the 20th century, the estate experienced a spectacular renaissance from 1997 onwards. Today, the distillery belongs to the luxury group LVMH, its current owner, which has succeeded in elevating the brand while preserving its artisanal identity and untamed spirit. The production tools, equipped with copper stills of a distinctive shape, allow for the creation of a robust, oily distillate. Under the guidance of Master Blender Dr Gillian Macdonald and Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg cultivates a unique style where powerful peat (approximately 50 ppm) meets unexpected sweetness, establishing itself as an essential reference for discerning enthusiasts.

Dolce Limited Edition 2026: the alliance of Islay peat and Sicilian Marsala
Unveiled on the occasion of Ardbeg Day, celebrated each year on the last Saturday of the Fèis Ìle festival, the Dolce Limited Edition 2026 is a Scotch whisky with no age statement that is creating a stir. This bold cuvée embodies the dramatic encounter between the peaty ruggedness of the Islay coast and the sunny warmth of the Sicilian "dolce vita".

Crafted from heavily peated malted barley, this single malt is the result of a meticulous blend orchestrated by Master Blender Dr Gillian Macdonald. The distillate has matured in a combination of classic American oak ex-bourbon casks and Sicilian Marsala wine casks. The distillery specifically selected the "Dolce" category, the sweetest of the Marsala classifications (ahead of secco and semisecco), to amplify its famous peated paradox.

Bottled at 47.8% vol. and non chill-filtered to preserve all its texture and aromatic richness, this global limited edition stands out with packaging inspired by Italian cinema. It offers an unprecedented sensory experience, where the house's intensely smoky DNA is enriched with an indulgence resolutely oriented towards dessert.
